ADESA Clear Post-Sale Inspections (PSI)

ADESA Clear PSI Service Offering

  • ADESA Clear offers dealers a Post-Sale inspection (“PSI”) at the dealer’s election for a fee.
  • The PSI is not part of ADESA’s Arbitration Policy, but a separate service offering to provide added assurance and coverage to the buying dealer in their purchase.
  • The purchase of a 14-Day PSI guarantees an extended arbitration period of 14 calendar days (sale day is day 1).
  • The purchase of a 7-Day PSI is subject to ADESA Clear’s standard arbitration period.
  • The Buyer must elect to include a PSI at checkout on the same day as the sale.
  • Not all vehicles are eligible for a PSI. See Qualifications and Exclusions.
  • Some ADESA Clear PSI policies or processes may differ from other ADESA PSI service offerings.

Vehicle Qualifications and Exclusions

Vehicles sold through ADESA Clear from an ADESA physical auction location with a selling price of under $75,000, and are not listed As-Is, are eligible for PSI. Not all vehicles are eligible for a PSI. Exclusions include but are not limited to:

  • Vehicles sold out of a Carvana Inspection Center location
  • Vehicles sold AS-IS; these vehicles are subject to an information-only PSI report at buyer’s option.
  • Vehicles with a sales price of $2,500 and under, regardless of As-Is designation; these vehicles are subject to an information-only PSI report if purchased by the buyer.
  • Vehicles with an odometer reading of over 125,000 miles, regardless of As-Is designation; these vehicles are subject to an information-only PSI report if purchased by the buyer.
  • Vehicles that are 10 years or older from the current calendar year; regardless of As-Is designation; these vehicles are subject to an information-only PSI report if purchased by the buyer. PSIs are not available for vehicles that are 10 years old or older from the current calendar year
  • Vehicles that are sold with a selling price of over $75,000, regardless of As-Is designation; these vehicles are subject to an information-only PSI report if purchased by the buyer.
  • Exotic Vehicles (including but not limited to Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Dodge Viper, Ferrari, LaForza, Lamborghini, Maserati, Maybach, McClaren, Panoz, H1 Hummer, and Rolls Royce)
  • Motorcycles, watercraft, trailers, or recreational Vehicles
  • Antiques (20 model years or older)
  • Homemade or modified vehicles
  • Kit Vehicles or hand built vehicles
  • Heavy Trucks and Equipment
  • Vehicles or conditions specifically excluded in the most current NAAA Arbitration Policy

ADESA reserves the right to deny a PSI at the sole discretion of the auction location. If a PSI is denied, monies paid for the PSI will be refunded in full to the buyer.

PSI Checklist/Items Covered

The following items are included as part of the PSI. The checklist applies to defective items listed below that are singularly $800 or more to repair or replace on vehicles sold from an ADESA physical auction location via ADESA Clear.

  • Odometer Verification (accounting for movement on the lot)
  • Engine Function and Operation
  • Transmission Engages and Functions
  • 4X4 System Engagement
  • ABS/Brakes Function (if brake light is on)
  • Flood Inspection
  • Electrical Accessories Checked for Function on the following items if included on the vehicle:
    • Navigation
    • Convertible Top
    • Sunroof
    • Automatic Sliding Doors
    • Power Windows
    • Power Seats/Heated Seats
    • Radio/CD/DVD Player/Entertainment System
    • Any electrical item over $500
  • Emission Control Equipment Present
  • Air Conditioning System Compressor Engagement Check
  • Supplemental Restraint System/Air Bags Checked (if SRS/Air Bag light is on)
  • Vehicle Structure Visually Checked for Damage (auction is not liable for frame damage that could not be detected through a visual inspection)

Coverage Period and Mileage Limitation

  • The PSI is not insurance or a guaranteed buy-back policy, but a mechanical inspection performed by a trained service technician to provide greater assurance for the buyer’s purchase related to the items on the post sale inspection checklist.
  • The purchase of a PSI guarantees an extended arbitration period of 14 calendar days (sale day is day 1).
  • If an item or part fails the PSI inspection, and the failed component was not properly disclosed on the VDP, the item will be eligible for arbitration.
  • The vehicle must have 50 miles or less accumulated on the odometer in order for the dealer to file an arbitration to the PSI findings.  Vehicles driven over the 50 miles limitation will not be eligible for arbitration.

Dispute Process and Remedies

  • If a vehicle fails PSI on a non-disclosed component and the buyer seeks a price adjustment or chooses to void the sale; the vehicle would be placed into the arbitration process and the NAAA Arbitration Policy and the ADESA Arbitration Policy would govern the arbitration.
  • ADESA will be responsible for discussion of arbitration issues with the seller.
  • A vehicle returned for any reason during the PSI extended arbitration period must be in the same or better condition as when purchased.
  • Further, ADESA will not reimburse a dealer for transportation, reconditioning, other work or expenses performed on the vehicle that is returned or lost profit from retail or wholesale transactions.

Buyer Financial Responsibility

The buyer is financially responsible for the PSI fee regardless of inspection outcome.

Non-transferability of Coverage

The PSI extended arbitration period cannot be transferred to subsequent buyers. The PSI extended arbitration period is void once the vehicle is resold.
